Irish Soda Bread
This is a Family favorite recipe for St. Patrick's Day, but this is a great accompaniment to any meal!
Ingredients
- 3 cups All Purpose Flour
- 3 cups Whole Wheat Flour
- 1/2 cup Brown Sugar
- 1 tsp Baking Soda
- 1/4 cup Chilled butter cut into 1/2 inch cubes
- 2 cups Buttermilk
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425*F.
- In a Medium Bowl whisk both flours together and then add sugar and baking soda.
- Then Add the Butter and cut it into the flour until you have pea sized pieces.
- Add the buttermilk, and stir until shaggy dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface until it comes together.
- Shape the Dough into a 7 inch round dough ball.
- Put the dough on a stone baking sheet on top of parchment paper.
- Cut a large X on the top of your dough.
- Bake the bread for about 40 minutes.
- Take out of the oven and cool completely and slice it up and serve up with good butter (not the cheap crap)
