Irish Soda Bread

This is a Family favorite recipe for St. Patrick's Day, but this is a great accompaniment to any meal!

Cook Time 40 minutes
Servings 6

Ingredients
  

  • 3 cups All Purpose Flour
  • 3 cups Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1/4 cup Chilled butter cut into 1/2 inch cubes
  • 2 cups Buttermilk

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 425*F.
  • In a Medium Bowl whisk both flours together and then add sugar and baking soda.
  • Then Add the Butter and cut it into the flour until you have pea sized pieces.
  • Add the buttermilk, and stir until shaggy dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface until it comes together.
  • Shape the Dough into a 7 inch round dough ball.
  • Put the dough on a stone baking sheet on top of parchment paper.
  • Cut a large X on the top of your dough.
  • Bake the bread for about 40 minutes.
  • Take out of the oven and cool completely and slice it up and serve up with good butter (not the cheap crap)
