Low Country Boil Seasoning

This is a recipe for a simple yet flavorful Cajun Shrimp and Crab Boil Seasoning

Ingredients
  

  • 2 parts dried bay leaves
  • 2 parts ground cayenne pepper
  • 2 parts dried black whole peppercorns
  • 2 parts dried crushed red pepper flakes
  • 2 parts dried thyme leaves
  • 4 parts dried coriander seeds
  • 4 parts celery seeds
  • 8 parts dried mustard seeds
  • 1 part dried whole allspice berries
  • 1 part dried whole clove buds

Instructions
 

  • Combine all ingredients in bowl.
  • Store in a glass jar and use as needed for boiling shrimp and crab.

Low Country Boil

Here is how to make a great Low Country Boil!

Ingredients
  

  • 5 lbs small new potatoes or any small variety of potatoes
  • 4 packages smoked kielbasa cut into 2 inch pieces
  • 12 ears corn on the cob broken into halves or thirds
  • 5-6 lbs shrimp deveined and not peeled
  • 3/4 cup Low Country Boil Seasoning see above for recipe

Instructions
 

  • Fill large stock pot about 3/4 of the way full of water.
  • Place on an outdoor cooker and bring water to a boil.
  • Turn to a med-high heat.
  • Add Low Country Boil Seasoning to the water.
  • Place the potatoes into the pot, and cook for 10-45 minute. The cooking time of the potatoes depends on how big your potatoes are.
  • Add corn and kielbasa, cook for about 15 minutes.
  • Add the Shrimp to the pot, and cook until they turn redish in color, usually about 5 to 6 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and drain liquid.
  • You can either dump the low country boil onto a table covered in newspaper, or place in a serving dish.

It was my birthday last week, and I wanted a low country boil something awful. So I went to all the grocery stores around looking for old bay or a packet of shrimp and crab boil. I couldn’t find anything, anywhere. So I took to researching what goes into making your own crab boil.

I had to buy most of the stuff off of Amazon to put this all together. In the end, it was worth it. In fact I liked this better than when I used a pre-made shrimp boil. Next on my list is making my own Old Bay seasoning……
