I needed a vacation, so my friend and I decided to take a girls trip and do what we call here a “toccata e fuga”. Meaning we did a 3 day trip to Ancona. We found a cute bed and breakfast in the city center and It was economic and in the middle of everything we wanted to see. I say we wanted to see things, but speaking for myself, I wanted to eat!
As one lady told us “non si mangia malissimo” (you won’t eat bad). She was right. Ancona is full of seafood and flavor. The people of the city are open and helpful. And it does not cost an arm and a leg to go there.
Train tickets were less than 25euros. Trenitalia was late, as usual, but we made it there in no time.
I did make a Cherry Plumcake and a thermos of coffee for the morning trip. I am glad I did, because our train left at 5:50 and we had a 1 hour layover In bologna. That layover turned into a 3 hour layover, and somethings are still closed in Bologna and the region of Marche, where Ancona is. They were both still in the yellow zone, whereas where I live and many other regions are in the white zone. This means your normal, oh I will just sit at a bar and hangout waiting for the train, doesn’t happen. We made the most of our time, sitting on the train platform, eating plumcake and drinking coffee.
When the train finally started to get closer to the ocean and I finally saw the sea in about 2 years… I was in awe of how blue and beautiful the Adriatic Sea really is. The whole east coast of Italy is gorgeous and doesn’t get as much credit as the west coast. It is beautiful.
Once we finally arrived and got set on our journey to the city center and eventually our bed and breakfast, I snapped a few pictures.
After we got all checked-in at the bed and breakfast, we took a small nap, and then headed to the streets. I was in search of food and some beautiful architecture.
Piazza del Plebiscito:
Loggia dei Mercanti:
Chiesa S. Maria Della Piazza:
Fontana del Calamo
Fontana dei cavalli
Random Things I saw, that I liked.
La Cantineta Bar
This was my first meal in Ancona and Let me tell you what. It was hard to beat.
Sunset
I have not seen the sunset like this in a very, very long time. Where I live we are covered by the mountains from east to west. So I don’t exactly get to see the sunrise and set.
