The Original Beginner’s Ribbed Scarf Pattern:
Materials Needed:
- #4-Medium / Worsted weight yarn. (Approx: 220 yards)
- J-10, 6mm crochet hook
- Tapestry needle for weaving ends.
Gauge: Gauge is not very important for this pattern.
Abbreviations
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- st(s) = stitch(s)
- BLO = Back Loop Only
- beg = beginning
- * to ; = repeat * to the instructions.
Note: beg ch does not count as a st.
ch 176+1 (or any number of stitch + 1)
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from the hook, sc in each st across, turn. (176 sts total)
Row 2: working in BLO, ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. (176 sts total)
Row 3 to 18+: repeat row 2. Fasten off and weave the ends. For the fringe, I cut 10″ yarn pieces to make about 5″ long fringe.
I used: a 25% Alpaca, 27% wool, 48% Acrylic blend that is made here in Italy. 150gr 300m.
This called for a 6.5-7.5 hook, I chose to use a 7.
I made this scarf for my friends birthday, I chained 170 and around 30 rows.
I also went for a scalloped border and not the fridge.
For the scalloped border, I dc 1, followed by 3 sc and dc into every other sc.
This is one of the first times I ever tried to read a pattern….. I’m not sure if my finished version is like what it is supposed to look like, or if I just went with it.
Hey, this is how we learn!
