So, this Saturday started off just like any other, woke up early to take care of the horses and the usual chores of the morning. But, I got a letter to my office to sponsor this 5K race.. So I said, thought, yeah a 5K is healthy, I”ll sponsor something.. and I also was offered a free entry to the race, so, Elena and I decided to go to the race. I think I may have forced her to go hahaha. Well 7:30am was cool and still a little dark, and the race started at 8. About 7:50 we all lined up at the race start line, listened to a very beautiful voice singing the national anthem and then a on your mark, get set……..go…. and we were off, Elena, Kristina and myself…. We made one turn….. and another… and another.. and then the unthinkable happened…. there was a uphill grade to the track…….. Ugh… I had to take a breather… and there is nothing like hearing people coming up behind you, to kick your butt into another gear… I totally squirreled when I saw a puppy who ran out into the road to say hi.. and I stopped caught a breath or two and headed back out… After what felt like 5 miles… I saw a sign that said 1 mile… I was thinking.. holy crapman…. but, we pushed on.. I turned the corner at one spot and saw a police man who was directing us runners.. and he had a dunkin donuts coffee… (if you know me at all.. that is manna from heaven in my eyes) I paused and said… what? you didn’t bring me any coffee???? he laughed and told me he figured I would have been busy… I sure do love the cops in our town.. so up another big hill and then a quick sprint through the graveyard on the way back to the football field… and we finished on the 50 yard line complete with pictures and a big bottle of water and a banana. I was super happy to see the potassium…. Now, mind you, I have been running for about a year…. and two months ago, I kinda stopped and got back into Yoga and weights… and boy howdy do you loose muscle quick.. So we all waited around for awards… and it was a good thing we did…
Elena won second in her age division.. and I totally pulled of a first place win in my age division…
I can honestly say.. that was the first running award I have ever won… I was thoroughly proud of that.. 🙂
